Cette bibliographie s’est assignée comme but de présenter une liste de références sur les recherches quantitatives et statistiques en psychanalyse, pour ceux qui ont envie d'évaluer la psychanalyse. Assurément, la plupart des psychanalystes voient de telles approches quantitatives d’un œil critique. À juste titre. Et cette critique naît moins d’une présupposée crainte de résultats insatisfaisants – en réalité, les résultats statistiques sont très encourageants, surtout quant aux effets à long terme – que d’une réflexion épistémologique sérieuse sur les conditions et les conséquences de telles mesures en rapport avec le processus psychanalytique. C’est la raison pour laquelle il nous a semblé indispensable de compléter cette bibliographie par une section où figurent nombre de critiques des critères quantitatifs de recherche dans les psychothérapies en général, et en psychanalyse en particulier.
L’intention première de cette bibliographie est fournir un outil de travail pour les mesures statistiques de l’efficacité de la psychanalyse. De ce fait, la bibliographie entend par là-même informer sur l’existence d’études quantitatives et statistiques en psychanalyse.
À l’encontre de l’affirmation de la non-existence de telles mesures, ou de l’affirmation de non-efficience, nous citerons donc le Dr Jean-Michel Thurin, l’un des auteurs de l’expertise collective INSERM sur les psychothérapies : « L'affirmation suivant laquelle « la psychanalyse n'a pas de résultats thérapeutiques » [...] est tout simplement fausse, suivant les critères mêmes invoqués, ceux de l'expertise de l'INSERM. » (Scientificité et efficacité)

L’ « affaire » K. Garwe (Berne, Suisse) nous semble intéressante en ce qu’elle fournit, 15 ans avant l’affaire du Livre noir de la psychanalyse, une perspective intéressante et largement commentée des problèmes et déviations d’études comparatives. À ce propos il semble intéressant que l’un des premiers et plus virulents critiques de l’efficience de la psychanalyse, H.J. Eysenk (Université de Londres), soit revenu sur sa critique initiale de la psychanalyse quelque 40 ans plus tard, en 1993.
